The British government is prepared to move forward with employing the total value of seized Russian holdings to support the Ukrainian defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany stated that this coordinated action would heighten pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and persuade Russia to participate in talks.

They added that the initiative would be executed in tight collaboration with the US.

United Kingdom restrictions have blocked more than £25bn of Russian assets since Moscow began its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, until now, resources sent to the Ukrainian government using Russian holdings had exclusively been drawn from earnings and returns generated on them.

Sir Keir told President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and Germany were in agreement in their aim to push forward toward using the total worth of the seized Russian sovereign assets to conclude the conflict.

He stated that further sanctions over the next period would heighten the tension on Russia.

This announcement follows European Union representatives gathered in the Danish capital last week to debate using frozen Russian holdings for a €140 billion loan to Ukraine.

Last month, President Donald Trump urged international partners to confiscate or utilize immobilized Russian funds, as reported by reports.

The total of immobilized Russia's funds in the EU is calculated to be approximately €211bn.
